Ivy Tobin: THE SOCIETY FOR RECOVERING DOORMATS
Hear Author & Founder of The Society For Recovering Doormats Ivy Tobin talk about how she transformed from being a ‘people-pleaser’ who was a human doormat into an empowered woman with a voice and a mission to help others also get ‘off the floor’ and learn to love themselves.
About Ivy Tobin
Founder of The Society for Recovering Doormats, Ivy Tobin represents every person who has learned to be small & later discovered their value. A living testament of hope, Ivy demonstrates that it is indeed possible to find your voice, “get off the floor” and embrace your own uniqueness.
First an ACTOR
Starting her career as an actor in New York City, Ivy Tobin achieved near fame appearing in multiple films and television series including One Life to Live, Another World, Spin City, The Secret of my Success, Texas, A Stranger Among Us, and The Quiz Show.
“Rose Gardner” is Born
After spending years as a struggling scriptwriter, playwright, songwriter and poet often writing under the name of her alter ego, “Rose Gardner,” Ivy discovered that she herself had been living her life “on the floor” as a doormat. In her recovery from that way of life, she was inspired to empower her fictionalized persona (and her readers) in her newest Rose Gardner endeavor, My Life as a Doormat, which began to create a life of its own.
It’s 1980. Naïve and fresh out of college Rose moves to Manhattan against her parents’ wishes to pursue an acting career. Anxiety-ridden and insecure, Rose fights to maintain her sanity, while establishing herself as an actress and coping with bad relationships, unpredictable roommates, bad decisions, bad jobs, and bad friends.
If you are a ‘people pleaser’ or ever feel like life, work or family is overwhelming doesn’t always go as planned following the adventures of Rose Gardner will not only make you feel less alone, but will also inspire you in your journey of empowerment to find your voice and discover how you too can get “off the floor.”
The Society for Recovering Doormats
Ivy began her successful daily blog as Rose Gardner on her Facebook Page for The Society for Recovering Doormats as well as on her blog. On both her blog and her Facebook Page, Rose offers advice and encouragement for those uncomfortable standing up for themselves and speaking out. Since its launch, The Society has developed a life of its own with a vision that parallels the #MeToo and Women’s March Movements.
More Recovering Doormat Resources to Come
Ivy relocated from Manhattan and now lives on the West Coast of Florida, with her husband, daughter, and two cats. In her spare time, she volunteers with several local charities and enjoys walking and writing at the beach. Currently she is working on a sequel to My Life as a Doormat entitled Not Just My Mother’s Daughter. Also in the works is a on-line companion workbook “Off the Floor” to compliment her FB page and blog. Off the Floor will help followers of her empowerment sites to stand up and speak out and will be available on-line early spring.
