About Ricki Heller
Although Ricki holds a PhD in Modern American Literature, food and cooking have always been her heart’s passion. Early in her career, Ricki’s love of baking led to a 5-year stint as a dessert caterer after a colleague asked her to provide desserts for her wedding. Later, she ran a wholesale organic bakery, Bake it Healthy, that provided healthy muffins, cookies and other treats to stores across the Greater Toronto area. Recently Ricki was a nominee in the 2016 Canadian Holistic Nutrition Awards.

After being diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) at age 23, Ricki began to change her eating habits and realized how much the food we eat influences our health. She was diagnosed with Candida Related Complex (CRC) in 1999 and followed the anti-candida diet for three years, eradicating all symptoms. That led her to pursue studies as a holistic nutritionist to learn more about the healing power of foods; she obtained her Registered Holistic Nutritionist designation (RHN) from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where she graduated summa cum laude and was Valedictorian.
When the Candida Returned, Ricki knew it was time for a Permanent Change.
Following a second bout with the condition in 2009, Ricki’s world turned upside down when her health issues again required her to cut out gluten, sugar, eggs and dairy. At that point, she realized she’d have to change her eating habits forever. These days, she shares her anti-candida friendly recipes via cooking classes across the Toronto area as well as through her blog and books. She’s determined to show people that an anti-candida diet is not only doable, but can even be enjoyable; and that you can succeed on the diet while still living in the real world. In 2016, Ricki was a finalist for one of five Canadian Holistic Nutrition Awards (national awards for holistic nutritionists in Canada).

In addition to writing her blog, Ricki is an Associate Editor for, and contributes a monthly column to, Simply Gluten-Free magazine, the number one magazine in North America in the gluten-free category. She is also a regular contributor to Gluten-Free & More magazine (formerly Living Without); her articles and recipes have appeared in Clean Eating magazine, Allergic Living magazine, Canadian Living Magazine, One Green Planet, KrisCarr.com, Buzzfeed, VegNews.com, The Huffington Post, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Tonic Toronto and others. As a brand ambassador for Attune Foods, she created recipes and wrote for the Attune blog. She was also a regular contributor to The Balanced Platter and Fitalicious.com.
Ricki’s television appearances include Canada AM, CityTV’s Breakfast Television, Global’s The Morning Show, CTV News at Noon, as a featured guest on York Region Living, In the Know, and as a frequent guest on Rogers’ daytime (York Region and Toronto). She was also a speaker at the inaugural Nourished conference in Chicago in 2012, where she appeared on CBS Chicago, as well as the Toronto-based Gluten-Free Garage and Gluten-Free Expo.
Today Ricki shares recipes and information through her blog, rickiheller.com, her online group programs such as her Candida Kick-Start course, The Sweet Life (private members’) Club and through private individualized coaching for people on restricted diets. Nothing makes her happier than helping people learn to love food again and discover how easy it is to thrive on a “free-from” diet.
