About Lynda Shrager, OTR, MSW, CAPS

Lynda Shrager is a registered national board-certified occupational therapist with a master’s degree in social work and has worked for more than 37 years in the field of geriatric rehabilitation. She is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and a professional organizer.  Lynda is the President of At Home for Life, a business that performs residential assessments to help seniors safely and successfully age in place.

In addition to being the author of Age in Place: A Guide to Modifying, Organizing and Decluttering Mom and Dad’s Home, Lynda is the author of Otherwise Healthy: A Planner to Focus Your Thoughts on Organizing Life after Being Diagnosed with Breast CancerSince 2009 Lynda has been a featured columnist (The Organized Caregiver) for Everyday Health, one of the country’s leading online consumer health websites.

An international speaker, Lynda presents numerous lectures and workshops that focus on a variety of issues including caregiving, aging in place, organizing health and home, senior health and wellness, and breast cancer treatment and survivor issues.

Navigating Crises Thru ORGANIZATION

Having begun her own journey on the day she and her daughter were simultaneously diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions more than 23 years ago, Shrager successfully negotiated the crisis and realized that it was her organizing skills that she had called upon to get her through.  By the time her mother was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer, Lynda had become the expert in organizing all the tasks that needed to be done to both simultaneously manage a serious illness and keep up with life.  The Organized Caregiver was born.

Integrating Occupational Therapy Practices with Social Work Empowerment

Shrager has found herself combining the occupational therapy practice of taking seemingly overwhelming tasks and breaking them down into smaller, more manageable sub-tasks with social work empowerment, helping people draw from their inner strengths to overcome adversity. She has practiced in the medical field of geriatric rehabilitation for over 37 years, the last 14 working with patients and their families in the home care arena, compassionately offering creative wisdom to all she serves during this uniquely vulnerable time of life.

“My hope is that Age in Place… will enable you to create a proactive plan to help your parents thrive in their homes for as long as they desire.”

~Lynda Shrager, OTR, MSW, CAPS

AGE IN PLACE

In her book Age In Place: A Guide to Modifying, Organizing, and Decluttering Mom and Dad’s Home (Bull Publishing, April 4, 2018), Lynda Shrager, an occupational therapist and Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), provides a practical step-by-step, room-by-room guide to simple modifications that can help seniors make their homes safer and easier to navigate.

“So, for those of you with…concerns about aging family members and friends, I recommend a very helpful, comprehensive yet not overwhelming book, “Age in Place: A Guide to Modifying, Organizing, and Decluttering Mom and Dad’s Home,” by Lynda G. Shrager, an occupational therapist for the last 37 years who has worked with seniors in their homes for more than 13 years. Ms. Shrager has good reasons to believe that addressing the challenges of independent living can help keep seniors safe and their kids sane.”
